PLA 2022 in Review

Written by Paul Quelch | 4/6/22 2:19 PM

What an incredible time we had at PLA 2022 in Portland, OR!

The conference was an amazing event. We so enjoyed the opportunity to finally SEE so many of our partners in person as well as make new connections. And of course, PLA 2022 allowed Communico to formally debut our Tiny Library.

What is the Tiny Library?
Big things come in small packages. This exclusive space provided us with an opportunity to demonstrate Communico’s integrated suite of award-winning software applications built just for libraries. Not just a space for technology, the Communico team also served a mean cup of coffee and mixed a great cocktail in the Tiny Library! Sometimes seeing really is believing, so we have included a quick video that offers you a preview of the Tiny Library at PLA.  What’s next for the Tiny Library? We’ll be taking the library on a tour starting in California in spring and making its way to DC for ALA at the end of June.

PLA 2022 Video Recap

What’s new at Communico?
PLA allowed us to present some of the many updates and enhancements we have in store for 2022, including:

CONNECT
An updated version of our customer mobile app for IOS and Android (formerly Engage) will be available later this year. Completely redesigned with lots of new customizable options allowing you to easily achieve a look and feel that matches your library’s unique branding. In addition, we will have many new features such as multi-languages, family card capability and a built-in native eBook reader.

READ
The first of two new additions to the Communico module suite for 2022, Read has been designed to help libraries bridge the digital divide. It is an eBook reader similar to the Nook or Paperwhite where patrons simply enter their barcode and pin once and then have immediate unlimited, simultaneous access to over 6,000 eBooks from DPLA Open Bookshelf, plus every eBook the library currently owns regardless of vendor (although these will be subject to normal lending rules).

ROAM
Our next generation staff-facing mobile app, Roam lets libraries create a more retail led environment by allowing staff to ditch the circulation and information desks and assist customers from anywhere inside the library or outside at outreach events.

INTERACT
Our new interactive kiosk module with hardware support for the new cost-effective kiosks from Samsung. Interact allows customers to self-serve for multiple services not just self-check, and in return gives staff back time to provide additional services to your community.

Curious to learn more? Please be on the lookout for a webinar invitation later this month where I outline these product updates in detail with our VP of Product, Siobhan Myles.

Best,

Paul
